School in a Bag marathon runners raise valuable funds during the Awareness Week.
To help bring the School in Bag Awareness Week to a capital close, 3 runners tread the streets of London on April 22nd 2012 by taking part in the 31st London marathon.
Tristan Ellis, Matt Hann and Damien Lote, all first time marathoners ran successful fundraising campaigns alongside their training for the 26.2 mile London marathon and collectively their efforts have passed £1550 – enough to fund over 100 SchoolBags!
Tristan’s campaign included donations instead of presents at a birthday party which raised £350. He said:
“The whole marathon experience was an absolutely fantastic experience and one I will never forget. I’m really pleased that I chose to raise money for the Piers Simon Appeal and School in a Bag as it helped to focus my efforts giving me purpose and drive. I had a number of runners showing interest in the SIAB rucksack I was wearing. Having said that this would be my one and only Marathon, I’m now thinking………..maybe just one more?”
Whilst Bristol based Damien, an employee for Orange has the opportunity to increase his total by 25% thanks to the Orange staff fundraising policy.
Meanwhile, Yeovil College employee, Matt Hann joined the School in a Bag marathon team quite late in the day in early April, realising that it was too good a fundraising opportunity to miss out on. He commented:
“It’s fair to say that I really enjoyed the whole event! The atmosphere was fantastic and I was overwhelmed by the support throughout the race! First marathon and managed 3.37! Very happy! Considering the short timescale for sponsorship the response has been really good and all have sponsors have commented on what a great cause you are working towards!”
School in a Bag would like to congratulate Tristan, Damien and Matt for their successful marathons and thank them for helping give the Gift of Hope to poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children through their fantastic fundraising.
Today, April 30th the ballot for the 2013 London marathon has opened. The places fill up incredibly quickly so if you want to follow in Tristan’s, Damien’s and Matt’s footsteps (literally), sign up via the following link.
Let’s see if we can get more fantastic fundraising runners involved next year
