For the third year running, School in a Bag will be in Tesco, Yeovil on the last Saturday before Christmas (December 21st 2013) packing Shopping Bags for SchoolBags. However, this year, organisers have taken it to the next level by turing the event in to an 18 hour packing marathon!
Charity Liaison Officer, Luke Simon said, “Last year, with only a handful of packers between 9.00am and 5.00pm we raised a brilliant £768.00. The busiest time on the tills was between 6.00am – 7.00am and the store was getting busier when we left at the end of our stint. So, it makes complete sense to lengthen our presence there this year and turn it into a marathon.”
School in a Bag are seeking volunteers to come to the store to pack in shifts to suit their timetable on the day. Luke continues, “Our aim is to try and get as many of the tills filled throughout the course of the marathon and in particular, i would like to tap in to the schools and clubs around the Yeovil area to get them involved helping us to fund SchoolBags for poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children. With a big effort, i am sure we can raise over £2,000, enough to fund 135 SchoolBags”
