SCHOOL IN A BAG EVENTS

Over the years, we have turned our hands to organising many different fundraising events to not only continuously raise money but also to broaden the reach and network of our support base. From dinners hosted at our HQ and music nights through to adventurous running, trekking and cycle tours both nationally and internationally, the montage to the right are just a handful of the events we have had great fun putting on and hosting. The ethos behind our events are to make them fun, to bring people together and to help those participating in our challenges to fulfil their goals whilst bringing in funds.

THE BIG BAG PACK – OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER

The Big Bag Pack started by accident when we were given the chance to pack shopping on December 23rd in our local Tesco. “You should have been here at 6.00am, it was heaving” we were told so every year we are – we start at 06.00 and finish at midnight doing an 18 hour shift utilising unto 160 volunteers to help us. It is a fun day and we are always blown away by the generosity of the spirited festive public.

Could you organise your own Big Bag Pack?

THE AUTUMN THEMED BALL

Having been to many Balls but never organised our own, we felt it was time to give it a go. The October Masquerade Ball was a great success and raised over £10,000 thanks to corporate sponsorship from two business close to us and some amazing auction prizes that were generously donated. Everybody enjoys an opportunity to dress up and the masks, stilt walkers, string quartet, photo booth and caricaturist added some fantastic additional fun to a glitzy evening in a wonderful setting.

THE 3 PEAKS: OUTDOORS AND INDOORS!

The 3 Peaks over three days is a firm favourite in the calendar enabling participants to summit the highest mountain in Scotland, England and Wales each morning. This event can either be run as an ‘open’ challenge (open to everyone) or a corporate challenge. It’s a tough event, but a hugely rewarding one where friendships are made for life. Oh… and a SchoolBag always makes it’s way up to each summit!

Piloted during the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown, this alternative 3 Peaks Challenge involves summiting the heights of the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales but on a staircase. Simply work out the height elevation of you staircase and divide each mountain by the height of it. And for the ultimate test, have a crack at Everest! Please note, you might not want to wear footwear on a carpeted staircase!!

THE CHRISTMAS POPUP SHOP

Each November and December, we are fortunate enough to be given an empty shop in the Quedam Shopping Centre in our home town free of charge. We stransform the shop with a SchoolBag wall with the aim of getting all of the empty rucksacks on the wall packed and funded. Piloted in 2016, the pop-up shop is now a regular feature where the vast majority of the SchoolBags funded are as Chrsitmas presents complete with gift cards. We love our annual retail experience and have established a brilliant team of volunteers who help us keep the shop open seven days a week!

Boxing Day Walk Image

THE BOXING DAY COMMEMORATIVE WALK

The Boxing Day Walk from Home Farm (School in a Bag’s HQ) to Montacute House and back is a 6 mile round trip to commemorate the life of Piers Simon and all those who lost their lives in the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. We provide snacks and liquid refreshment at the half way point in Montacute…let’s just say that the walk back often takes a little longer and the path walked is not quite so straight! Hic 🙂
