Project Description

SHREE SARASWOTI BASIC SCHOOL, LAPSE

With the three year time limit for the Memorandum of Understanding running out, the Shree Saraswoti school build was presented to the District Governor of Rotary District 1200 as a project to undertake during his year in office. The project was accepted and spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Yeovil, the build was presented to clubs within the District and further afield.

One of the aspects that was so enriching about all of the school builds was that local members of the community were trained as masons so they developed a new skill set, an income to support their families and a sense of ownership.

The new earthquake resistant building code of reinforced steel concrete enforced by the government should see the school educate children for generations to come and once again, additional fundraising by the Rotary Club of Yeovil ensured that each student had a new SchoolBag presented to them by President Caroline Ansell at the opening ceremony.
